Giovane was a very young boy and volleyball was already part of the Gávio’s routine. The only son of João Ayrton and Lecy’s four kids, Giovane watched on TV the consecration of the renowned “silver generation”. At home, his example was his older sister, Gisele, who used to split her time between her studies and the volleyball courts, quite often in Giovane’s company. His genuine interest in volleyball made Giovane, a.k.a Gigio, fall in love with the sport. He did not know that would be the beginning of an everlasting love affair, more precisely over 30 years so far. When Gigio was 13, he quit judo to start giving his first serves at Clube Bom Pastor, in Juiz de Fora (MG). He had no idea how far volleyball would take him. Winner of two Olympic gold medals (Athens 2004 and Barcelona 1992), the “owner” of jersey nº 3 played over 400 official matches with the Brazilian national team around theworld, conquering countless glories, taking the name of Brazil to the highest place on the podium and building one of the most victorious careers of the national sport. And his childhood dream was to be an air force pilot…

Champion in the World Championship, four-times champion in the World League, the World Cup … Giovane was awarded “Best Forward”, “Best Blocker” … “ Best Player Worldwide”. He also played briefly on the sand, imprinting his mark and winning the Beach Volley Championship. In 2005, he announced his retirement as a volleyball player. And the success of the athlete’s time was repeated off the field. After “having hung up his knee pads”, Giovane has been working in other areas of the sport, with the same talent he showed as a professional player. As coach, with the same capacity and genius, he won important tournaments like The South American Championship and the Super League, among others. As leader, with the same leadership skills and vision he had as an athlete. Today Giovane is one of the most respected and requested sports speakers. To date, he has delivered more than 300 lectures to hundreds of companies, based on pillars such as teamwork, focus, goals setting, trust, commitment and leadership. Now Giovane is coach of the brazilian team under 21 and the team SESC RJ.
